Replacing Gearbox & Transmission Parts

As with most componentry, your gearbox and transmission lifespan will depend largely on how you drive. You'll need to replace your gearbox roughly every 100,000km or ten years for the average car. The first parts to wear are usually the gear synchronizers—if you're experiencing difficulties shifting gears, this may be the issue. 



For transmissions, it's normally recommended to replace every 150,000km or fifteen years. These are designed to be much more durable than gearboxes and contain far fewer moving parts. The clutch, however, will usually need replacing at the same time as your gearbox.
